On this week’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart slammed Donald Trump’s disjointed response to the thousands of emails released last week related to Jeffrey Epstein’s files.
Mr. Stewart began his monologue by poking fun at one of the most talked-about messages among Mr. Epstein’s roughly 20,000 emails released on November 12, an email from Mr. Epstein’s brother Mark who told former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon to “ask him if he has a picture of President Putin hitting Mr. Trump.”
“I know what you’re probably thinking, ‘Did Jeffrey Epstein have a brother?'” Stewart joked. “He did! Apparently. And as for the second thing you might be thinking.” Stewart finished his thoughts with a news clip. “Mark Epstein has issued a statement clarifying that the name ‘Bubba’ is not a reference to former President Bill Clinton.”
The late-night critic added, “Thank you for your easy-to-understand explanation. I have no further questions. Thank you.”
After months of fighting a campaign to release the Epstein files, Stewart took President Trump’s drastic move to support the release of the Epstein files. He played a soundbite from WJHL News Sunday night examining President Trump’s Truth social posts. It said, “House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein file because there is nothing to hide.”
“If I had nothing to hide, I could have always declassified these files and released them myself,” Stewart said. “How do we know this? A legal expert named Donald “Jurisprudence” Trump said so.”
Stewart then cut to footage of President Trump speaking on Fox News in 2022, saying, “If you were the president of the United States, you could declassify it just by saying declassify. Just thinking about it.”
“It’s clear he doesn’t want these things out there,” Stewart added. “That’s clear from his nonsensical answers today in the Oval Office.”
“We have nothing to do with Epstein. The Democrats have. All of his friends were Democrats. Look at Reid Hoffman. Look at Larry Summers, look at Bill Clinton,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office in a video from CNN.
“We’ve been trying to look at those people and every time a picture of you comes up,” Stewart shot back, before cutting to a photo of Trump and Epstein together.
