Former first lady Dr. Jill Biden recently told CBS Sunday Morning that she thought her husband, Joe Biden, had suffered a stroke on stage during the now-infamous 2024 debate with President Donald Trump.
“I don’t know what happened,” Dr. Biden said. “As I watched it, I thought, ‘Oh my God, he’s having a stroke.’ And it scared me to death.”
Dr. Biden’s full episode on CBS is scheduled to premiere on May 31, just two days before the release of her book “View from the East Wing.” The memoir explores the former first lady’s perspective as Joe Biden withdraws from the 2024 presidential race.
Some feared Joe Biden would run against Trump in his second term, but after a disastrous debate against Trump, calls for Biden to withdraw became overwhelming. Asked if she felt scared watching her husband struggle on stage, Dr. Biden answered, “I was scared, because I’ve never seen Joe like that before or since. Never.”
George Clooney was one of the most vocal people calling on Joe Biden to withdraw from the race. He expressed his thoughts in a New York Times op-ed published in July 2024.
“I love Joe Biden. As a senator, vice president, and president,” Clooney wrote. “I consider him a friend and I believe in him. I believe in his character. I believe in his morals. Over the past four years, he has won many of the battles he has faced.”
“But the only battle he can’t win is a race against time,” he continued, “None of us can win. It’s devastating to say this, but the Joe Biden who was with me at the fundraiser three weeks ago was not the Joe ‘Big Fain’ Deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even Joe Biden in 2020. He was the same guy we all witnessed at the debate. ”
