Top Gear and Clarkson’s Farm star Jeremy Clarkson is officially in remission from cancer.
Last week, it was revealed in an episode of “Clarkson’s Farm” filmed last year that he had been diagnosed with “aggressive” prostate cancer. However, in a new interview with The Sunday Times, Mr Clarkson said he is now in remission.
“Officially, there’s no question that I’m the luckiest man in the world,” he told the Times, adding that the reaction to his diagnosis was “more severe than I expected.”
The cancer was discovered after a routine checkup in May last year and required surgery to remove a tumor in his prostate. “It was an aggressive type of cancer,” Clarkson said. “It could have metastasized, it could have metastasized to the pancreas, it could have spread anywhere, and that would have been a big problem.”
But Mr Clarkson said a follow-up test two months ago showed no signs of cancer, although he acknowledged that 40 per cent of people who have had prostate cancer will get it again. “I try to be positive,” he said. “I decided to be one of the 60% who never relapse.”
Clarkson’s experience has inspired him to encourage other men to get prostate exams to catch cancer early, just like he did.
“This is why I have to say to everyone reading this: please, please, go get tested,” Clarkson told the Times. “It’s not offensive, it’s not decency, and it’s a no-brainer. I did it, and that’s why I’m sitting here talking to you 11 months later.”
