Jennifer Garner can do it all on screen.
This lovable Hollywood star with both sugar and spice played the masterful assassin Elektra in the Marvel films and the loveable teen-turned-magazine editor Jenna Link in the classic romantic comedy 13 Going on 30.
But she says she’s never identified with her as much as the character she plays in the upcoming miniseries “The Five Star Weekend,” which premieres locally on Binge on July 9.
The full-length trailer for the Peacock series was released on Tuesday, and it shows Garner in her element.
The reality star we’ve all come to know and love through her adorable social media cooking and gardening videos seems to be embodied in her new on-screen character, Hollis Shaw. Hollis Shaw is a renowned chef and best-selling author with impeccable taste and a warm demeanor.
“The more I read it, the more I was surprised and it hit home. All the similarities between Hollis and I were kind of shocking,” Garner told Hello! The screenplay is based on author Elin Hilderbrand’s 2023 novel of the same name.
“All of the things that are different about us were really fun for me. And then I found out that cooking in front of the camera was the first time that I got to do what I love about cooking and baking on camera as a character. And I found, just like Hollis, that it was really calming and really calming,” she added.
“Acting for me is always about, ‘Do I know what I’m doing?’ And in that (setting) I was like, ‘Oh, I know how to do this.’ I’m totally at home here. I know this character. ”It was really great. ”
In the series, Hollis’ picture-perfect life is quickly turned upside down when she suffers the devastating loss of her husband.
Unable to move on, a grieving widow invites four friends from different periods of her life on a coastal vacation. However, things don’t go as planned as tensions rise over the weekend and secrets are revealed.
The series’ logline reads, “This death begins to expose the cracks in Hollis’s picture-perfect life, including her strained marriage, complicated relationship with her daughter, and growing acclaim from fans.”
“To overcome his grief and find himself again, Hollis comes up with the idea of spending a weekend at his home on Nantucket with three friends from different stages of life: childhood, 20s, 30s, and one amazing fifth star.
“Set against a gorgeous coastal backdrop, stars grow in ways never imagined as boundaries are pushed and secrets are exposed.”
Hollis’ friends are played by Chloe Sevigny (American Horror Story), Regina Hall (One Battle After Another), Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians), and D’Arcy Carden (The Good Place).
Rising star Harlow Jane, the daughter of Hollywood stars Patricia Arquette and Thomas Jane, plays Garner’s on-screen daughter Caroline, with whom he has a complicated relationship.
“I think this is a role about friendship. It’s a role about growing up at this stage in your life,” Garner told Hello!
“Women are at the center of this. What’s their next chapter? What’s their next story? Their story isn’t over yet.
“I can’t think of anything I enjoyed more this summer than joining this group and playing this role.”
