This costume was a total thriller.
Prince Jackson paid tribute to his late father Michael Jackson by wearing the fabric from his shirt at the Los Angeles premiere of the biopic Michael Jackson.
“Michael Bush was my father’s costume designer. He designed the suit that I wore,” the 29-year-old told ABC News on Thursday of his ensemble, “and the armband was actually made of the fabric that my father always wore, a red corduroy shirt. That was my childhood. If I hugged my father, that’s what my father wore.”
Jackson was photographed wearing a red corduroy shirt at the 50th anniversary “American Bandstand” show taped on April 20, 2002 — 24 years to the day after “Michael” premiered.
Prince attended Monday’s premiere with children from the Heal Los Angeles Foundation, an organization that supports the development of local youth.
Attendees also wore red armbands emblazoned with the Heal Los Angeles logo.
Prince told ABC News that honoring his father “means a lot” to him. Michael, who died in 2009 at the age of 50, wore a red armband on several carpets to show his support for children in need.
Other celebrities attending the LA premiere wore looks inspired by the late Jackson, including Usher, Wale and Myles Garrett, who wore loafers, gloves and suits inspired by the King of Pop’s style.
Prince and his brother Bigi, 24, also paid homage to their father’s style at the film’s premiere in Berlin earlier this month.
Along with armbands, the brothers wore gold crown decals on their suit jackets.
Bigi’s armband had a special image of Michael’s feet, representing the iconic dance move the musician always performed.
“Michael,” which opens in theaters Friday, follows the superstar’s life on and off stage, from his involvement with the Jackson 5 in the 1960s to his strained relationship with his father, Joe Jackson, played by Coleman Domingo.
The project is a family affair, with Jaafar Jackson, the son of Michael’s older brother Jermaine Jackson, playing his late uncle.
The musical film ended after the release of Bad in 1987, and does not touch on the explosive child molestation allegations made against Michael starting in 1993.
Earlier this week, Jaafar said during a chat with Entertainment Tonight that a sequel to “Michael” is already “in early development.”
“You can’t fit everything into one movie,” he explained. “That’s impossible.”
Effie Spence, who plays Liza Minnelli in the film, also said, “There is talk of a second movie.”
she told Page Six on Friday. “There’s so much going on in Michael Jackson’s life, so much controversy, so many layers that we can uncover.”
