Henry Cavill is preparing to play spy games with Kevin Hart in Netflix’s new action comedy.
Cavill and Hart will star as rival spies who cross paths when their wives become best friends in a Lamaze class. An early synopsis describes it as, “Their double lives collide in unexpectedly hilarious and dangerous ways, forcing the two to reluctantly become best friends and partners on the road to fatherhood.”
Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort will produce the untitled film, which will be directed by McG. The screenplay was written by Adam and Aaron Nee (whose most recent work is Amazon MGM Studios’ Masters of the Universe, currently in theaters) and Jonathan Tropper. This project is based on a short story by Sean Lewis.
In addition to starring in the film, Hart is also producing through his Hartbeat banner alongside Luke Kelly Klein and Brian Smiley. Levy and Dan Levin will produce 21 laps with maximum effort along with Reynolds, George Dewey and Patrick Gowing. Emily Morris will serve as executive producer of “21 Laps.”
Cavill will next star in John Wick director Chad Stahelski’s reboot Highlander and Lawson Marshall Thurber’s Voltron, both produced by Amazon-MGM Studios. But the actor also has a long history with Netflix, having starred in Netflix’s wildly popular series The Witcher and opposite Millie Bobby Brown in the film Enola Holmes. Cavill is repped by WME. News of his casting was first reported by The Wrap.
Hart has also enjoyed a significant partnership with Netflix, producing hit films such as the heist thriller “Lift,” the buddy comedy “Me Time,” the action comedy “The Man from Toronto,” and the family drama “Fatherhood,” based on a true story. Last month, Hart was the target of a live comedy roast on Netflix, and his upcoming comedy “72 Hours” debuts on the streamer on July 24th.
