Jeff Gaspin is stepping down from his role as Netflix’s vice president of unscripted series after just over two years, Variety has confirmed. The former chairman of NBCUniversal Television Entertainment first assumed the role in February 2024, reporting directly to Brandon League, Netflix’s vice president of nonfiction series.
Mr. Gaspin is scheduled to retire on July 1st. From there, he’ll continue to work with the streamer as a producer, working on several projects it had in development there, including upcoming releases Monopoly and Physical 100: USA. He will also continue working on existing series such as “Age of Attraction” and will also be in charge of live events such as the SAG-AFTRA Actor Awards.
This marks a return to production for Gaspin, who previously ran Gaspin Media as president before Netflix. His work there included Netflix’s “The Tinder Swindler” and its “Rhythm & Flow.” His other credits included “The First Lady.” Now, his focus will resume to more hands-on production on Netflix’s future development and programming.
Gaspin’s accomplishments at Netflix include expanding live events such as “Skyscraper Live” and “BTS The Comeback Live” as an executive.
Gaspin’s long unscripted career includes serving as executive VP of programming and production at VH1, where he created the “Behind the Music” series. As president of Bravo, he oversaw “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” and “Project Runway,” and previously worked on the development of “Dateline NBC” as vice president of programming and development at NBC News.
He served as chairman of NBCUniversal Television Entertainment from 2009 to 2011, overseeing the business, creative and distribution aspects of NBCUniversal’s entertainment division, including broadcast and cable networks such as USA Network, Syfy, Bravo and Oxygen. He also led television production companies Universal Media Studios and Universal Cable Productions in that role. Other roles at NBCU include serving as president and COO of NBCUniversal Television Group.
News of Gaspin’s departure was first reported by Deadline.
