Bend like a beaver.
Hailey Bieber is the latest celebrity to bring back the hair accessory that once dominated middle school hallways and cost about $5 at the drugstore.
The 29-year-old Lorde founder wore a black plastic zigzag headband with her hair slicked back as she prepared for the FIFA World Cup finals at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, posting the look on her Instagram Stories.
It turned out to be a harbinger of luxury accessories to come. On Thursday, Miu Miu unveiled a campaign featuring models wearing the Italian brand’s luxurious comb headbands made of metal and black calfskin and featuring the logo on the temples. The price is $525.
Miuccia Prada brought back the shape for her fall 2026 show in March, sending serrated bands down the runway for Chloë Sevigny, Gillian Anderson and Gemma Ward.
The style reached its peak in pop culture in 2002, when Keira Knightley, who played Jules Paxton in Bend It Like Beckham, kept her hair toned down. The famous David Beckham is also a fan of the headband and has been photographed off the pitch in a zigzag version on several occasions.
Bieber sat in the VIP seats at Sunday’s game, singing “Everything Hallelujah” during the tournament’s first halftime show to cheer on her husband Justin Bieber, and split the cost with Madonna, Shakira and BTS.
The couple then celebrated Spain vs. Argentina’s win at The Twenty Two afterparty, where Hailey changed into a vintage John Galliano slip dress by Dior. This is another memory from the 10’s.
Her Gap denim capsule, released last week, plays with the same nostalgic angle, cut to ’90s proportions and stamped with 1996, the year she was born. It sold out within minutes of its release.
The Miu Miu campaign is also a reunion, with Bieber starring alongside Emma Corrin and Ever Anderson in the brand’s Spring 2022 ad.
