Anna Van Patten’s “Euphoria” character required a lot of work behind the scenes.
The actress detailed the “fascinating” process of creating a prosthetic Brazilian butt lift (BBL) for her character Kitty, which featured in the HBO series’ shocking Season 3 finale. This fictional stripper was sent across the border to Mexico to undergo the procedure.
“The prosthetics chapter of my ‘Euphoria’ experience was wild,” Van Patten told TV Insider on Tuesday, revealing that “first I had to get a butt scan.”
“Because we shot the gunfight scene for ‘The Silver Slipper’…we shot for 10 days, so I wore it every day for 10 days, and it might take me about two hours to put it on,” she explained.
She told the media that she was not allowed to sit while wearing the prosthetic leg, although the process of fitting her prosthetic leg became “much faster” as filming progressed. Conversely, the producers “created a device for her to lean on” so she could rest while she wasn’t filming.
While Van Patten admitted the whole process was “really difficult,” it was also “very interesting in a way.”
“So many people thought it was real. The girls at the club thought it was my real butt, so it looked really real when you saw it… drawing veins, drawing freckles, that was the whole process, but it was so glamorous.”
Van Patten joined the cast of “Euphoria” in Season 3. She plays Kitty, a kind but naive stripper who works for the evil club owner Alamo Brown, played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.
Kitty’s BBL wasn’t the only thing that shocked viewers during the finale. Fans were shocked when the show’s main character, Lou Bennett, died of a fentanyl overdose.
However, creator Sam Levinson defended the decision to kill off Lou in a post-finale HBO interview, noting that her fate was the most “honest ending” for the show.
The beloved character’s death scene also paid homage to the late cast member Angus Cloud, who accidentally overdosed in July 2023 at the age of 25, using previously unseen footage of his character Fezco “Fez” O’Neill.
“People relapse. They get confused. They’re not ready to get clean,” Levinson explained. “There’s no reason to bring it to the surface. I wanted to tell this story for Angus and for those who weren’t given a second chance.”
When asked if she thought Kitty knew about Lou’s tragic death orchestrated by Alamo Brown, Van Patten said, “No.”
“I don’t think she knew what happened to Lou,” she told the magazine. “I think Kitty tries to see the good in people, and I think a lot of people don’t tell her about her.
So she has to figure everything out on her own and there are so many different things going on that she doesn’t know where to put her trust. ”
And fans may never know the truth, as Levinson claims season 3 will be the show’s final episode.
