Disney World Builders, a new documentary by Leslie Iwerks, the granddaughter of Disney legend Ubu Iwerks, who co-created Mickey Mouse with Walt Disney, is set to premiere on Disney+ next month.
“Disney World Builders” offers a behind-the-scenes look at how movies and series like “Frozen” and “Zootopia” are transformed into immersive worlds across Disney parks. James Cameron, Kevin Feige, Jon Favreau, Pete Docter, Jennifer Lee, and Jared Bush are among the filmmakers featured in the documentary.
“Technology with great storytelling creates this immersive experience,” said Favreau, who directed the latest Star Wars film, “The Mandalorian and Grogu.”
Earlier this year, “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu” made its first appearance on the “Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run” ride at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Back in March, Lee, a former chief creative officer at Walt Disney Animation, saw Olaf and Arendelle’s magical kingdom come to life when the world of Frozen opened at Disneyland Paris.

Former Disney CEO Bob Iger sets the stage as he reflects on the power of uniting storytellers of unparalleled talent and the impact that creative fusion has had on the entire Walt Disney Company. The company’s current CEO, Josh D’Amaro, continues that story and speaks about Disney’s storytelling legacy and how it continues to evolve.
The documentary will premiere at D23, followed by a conversation with Iwerks. Last year, Iwerks released “Disneyland Handcrafts,” an inside look at Walt Disney’s dream of building “The Happiest Place on Earth” at Disneyland.
