Jinant Film & TV’s unstoppable family drama “Dear You” comfortably dominated the Chinese box office over the weekend of June 5-7, securing RMB 115.3 million ($17 million), according to Artisan Gateway data.
This low-budget cultural blockbuster directed by Lan Hongchun and starring Li Sitong and Wang Yantong has grossed a total of $238.5 million. The story details Grandma Ye Shurou, who lives in Chaoshan City. Her quiet twilight period is shattered when her debt-ridden grandson travels to Thailand to track down his grandfather, rumored to be a billionaire. As a result of the investigation, a hidden love affair spanning 50 years was uncovered, and it was discovered that the person to whom the grandmother had been writing letters using the traditional “Qiaopi” mail method was a complete stranger.
Zhonghe Qiancheng’s crime thriller film “Vanishing Point” held on to the second spot, collecting $2.5 million, bringing its total to $75.6 million. The film, directed by Chen Weihao and starring Zhen Kai and Liu Haochun, is based on the novel “The Sea Anemone” by Bei Baokang. The story follows a tangled web of dark secrets that are uncovered inside an old apartment after a boy disappears on the winter solstice.
In third place was Disney’s Star Wars spin-off, The Mandalorian and Grogu, which added $1.4 million for a total of $12.1 million. Debuting at No. 4, Amazon MGM Studios’ fantasy action vehicle Masters of the Universe earned $1.2 million in its opening slot.
Rounding out the top five was StudioCanal’s tense World War II historical drama “Pressure,” which grossed $1.1 million over the two-day weekend slot for a total of $1.2 million, including early previews.
Overall weekend box office revenue in mainland China reached $27.8 million, but year-to-date revenue in 2026 was $2.36 billion, a 42.3% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.
