Britney Spears’ sons reportedly intervened before the singer voluntarily entered rehab for substance abuse.
Sources told the Daily Mail that Spears, 44, was “limping” into a treatment facility after her March 4 drunk driving arrest until Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, were involved.
“They were the only ones she listened to and they were very loving and very kind, but also very firm,” the source said.
“This was a non-negotiable for them. She needed help and they told her they wouldn’t take no for an answer.”
Sources say Spears’ sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline threatened her relationship with the pop star, forcing her to enter rehab.
“It was like, ‘Mom, if you want us to come, we have to go,'” the source said. “That was all the motivation she needed.”
The source continued, “She wants a relationship with them, but it would have been in jeopardy if she didn’t go. So she did the right thing and says they seem happy with it.”
Meanwhile, a People source similarly claimed on Monday that Jaden and Sean played a “huge role” in getting their mother into rehab.
“They have been clear with her. They just want her to be healthy,” the source said.
Additionally, the source said Spears was “scared of going to jail” and eventually realized that entering a rehab facility was her “best option” to avoid going to jail.
The “Toxic” singer was taken into custody last month after authorities saw her weaving in and out of lanes.
Police allegedly found an unknown substance in Spears’ vehicle during her arrest, and the California Highway Patrol previously said Spears was believed to have been under the influence of a mixture of alcohol and drugs.
She checked into a rehab facility ahead of her next court date on May 4.
“This was her own choice,” an exclusive source told Page Six.
“This isn’t about one substance in particular, it’s two-fold… This is about Britney putting her mental health first and taking time to focus on what’s important to her.”
The source further added, “She’s passionate about taking care of her health. This is something she really wants to do for herself.”
Our source also said that Spears’ entire family, including her sons, supports this decision.
Sean and Jaden show up to their mother after a drunk driving incident, despite having been estranged from her in the past.
Last month, the trio also went on a yacht vacation.
