Sony Pictures has released the third trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which quickly transports Tom Holland’s summer epic from the ancient shores of Ithaca to the glass skyscrapers of New York.
The Sony/Marvel movie, which sees the British star ditch the sword and sandals of Telemachus from The Odyssey and don the red and blue costume of Spidey/Peter Parker, hits theaters on July 31st.
Roughly five years after Spider-Man: No Way Home, the latest installment of director Destin Daniel Cretton’s hit series follows the superhero living alone and “fighting crime in a New York City he no longer knows,” according to the film’s official logline. After erasing himself from the lives and memories of those around him, he now dedicates himself to protecting the city as a full-time Spider-Man. “But as the demands on him grow, the pressure causes a remarkable physical evolution that threatens his very existence, and a strange new pattern of crime creates one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.”
Holland co-stars with Zendaya (who recently confirmed their marriage), and the cast also includes homegrown children Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal and Michael Mando. New additions include Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colon-Zayas, and Marvin Jones II.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is already breaking records, with the first trailer for the highly anticipated movie in March racking up 718 million views in 24 hours, making it the biggest trailer debut of all time. The film then became the first movie trailer to reach 1 billion views in just 4 days.
“This is as big as anything we’ve ever made, but it’s still unlike anything we’ve ever made,” Sony Chairman Tom Rothman said at CinemaCon. “And Tom Holland gives his best performance in this movie. I can say this because I saw the movie.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, written by Chris McKenna and Eric Sommers, will be produced by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige. Watch the trailer below.
