Fire Rose is getting by with a little help from her friends.
Billy Ray Cyrus’ ex-wife tells Page Six in an exclusive interview that she’s turning to a group of fellow celebrities, including Crystal Harris, Courtney Stodden and Aubrey O’Day, to help her cope with her “traumatic” divorce from the country star.
“My beautiful friend Crystal Harris, a New York Times bestselling author, survived[alleged abuse]for many years. She was married to Hugh Hefner, and she wrote her story so beautifully and eloquently that she helped so many people,” Firerose, 37, marveled during a Zoom chat, referring to Harris as a “sister” who “bonded through some very difficult things.”
During their 2023 divorce, Firerose claimed in court documents that Cyrus’ “unpredictable and erratic” behavior amounted to “extreme verbal, emotional and psychological abuse” and was often exacerbated by Cyrus’ “sustained drug use,” an allegation that Cyrus “vehemently denies.”
During our conversation, Firerose called Stodden “another amazing angel” and confessed that he doesn’t know what he would do “without” O’Day.
“I am truly grateful to all the survivors of the powerful villains who have gone before me, and I am so honored to call them my dear friends,” the singer-songwriter said.
Harris, who was married to much older Playboy founder Hefner until his death in September 2017, has accused Hefner of not only sexual control but also emotional and financial abuse.
Stodden branded her ex-husband, Doug Hutchison, whom she married when she was 16 and he was 51, a “predator” and “pedophile”, labels Stodden dismissed as “false, malicious and gross.”
Meanwhile, O’Day has accused incarcerated music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs of “grooming” her and firing her after she rejected his sexual advances while managing Danity Kane, who also allegedly raped her. But Combs has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct.
“Our group chat is done in the most beautiful way. It’s such a supportive and loving connection that we have, and obviously the closeness of our friendship is emphasized by the fact that we’re all survivors (of alleged abusive relationships in public),” Firerose told Us about her “Survivor Sisters” text chain.
“It’s so important for each of us, for ourselves, for each other, and for the world at large, to be that example. … So many young women go through different versions of what we’re going through, and they don’t make it, they don’t survive. They don’t get the blessing and the miracle of going through something so extreme and so public and coming out of it and building a beautiful life.”
“And all my friends are just great examples of that. It’s not easy.”
Firerose, who is estranged from her biological family, said, “My friends are my family and they regularly show me what true love is.”
The 37-year-old musician has long accused her ex-husband of narcissistic abuse, which he denies, and her daughter Miley Cyrus has previously admitted that she “inherited narcissism” from her father.
“Part of narcissistic abuse is strategic isolation and coercive control to separate you from your community and friends,” Firerose explains, adding that many of those friends have “witnessed[her]coming back to[him]” after a chaotic breakup.
“And a lot of them were like, ‘Oh my God. I had no idea what was really going on behind closed doors,'” she recalled, adding that to some extent she had no idea either.
“Part of narcissistic abuse is being fooled by this false reality,” Firerose said, adding that after he first “love-bombed” Billy Ray, he allegedly began “furious” against her, calling her “all the meanest names” and imposing “very strict rules” on her, all of which he denies.
The Australian also highlighted the “huge power imbalance” in their relationship, pointing out the former couple’s 27-year age difference and Billy Ray’s celebrity status.
But the Grammy winner, who filed for divorce in June 2024, just seven months after getting married, tells a different story. In his petition, Billy Ray accused his third wife of improper marriage and fraud, detailing that she later allegedly used his credit card to make nearly $100,000 worth of fraudulent purchases.
But Firerose said she was allowed to use some of his credit cards and was never told to stick to the limits.
The “Achy Breaky Heart” singer went on to claim that Firerose was abusive in their relationship and only married him for his fame and fortune, which she denied.
Their divorce was finalized in August 2024. Firerose did not receive alimony from Billy Ray, but agreed to surrender the rights, credits, and royalties to the songs they wrote and published together during their brief marriage.
While the “Old Town Road” artist moved on with British actress Elizabeth Hurley, Firerose has been focusing her time and energy on “healing” herself. She explores the complexities of this topic through her podcast “No One Asked Her” and new songs such as “Shining Armor,” “Do Not Be Afraid” and “Love Knows How.”
“You can go through the hardest thing and come out of it. It doesn’t erase the trauma or the pain, but you can always choose to alchemize it, better yourself, and use what you’ve learned to help others,” she told us.
“That is my mission through my music, my podcast, and my social media, and everything I do now is done with that intention.”
Representatives for Billy Ray did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment for this story.
