6 key takeaways from the nominations

Television awards season is here again!

At Wednesday’s Primetime Emmy Awards nominations, “The Pit” dominated with a whopping 25 nominations, while “The Hux” broke the record for most nominations for a comedy in a single season with 24 nominations. Newcomer “Widow’s Bay” also received an astonishing 19 nominations.

As always, the nod brought a certain amount of surprise and scorn.

Read about the biggest shockers in the acting race among Wednesday’s Emmy nominations.

SNUB: Jeremy Allen White and (most of) the cast of “The Bear”

Jeremy Allen White previously won two Emmy Awards for his role as Carmy in The Bear, but was not nominated this year. zumapress.com

“The Bear,” always under scrutiny for inclusion in the comedy category, appears to have fallen out of favor with the Television Academy this year. In addition to Outstanding Comedy, it earned a total of eight respectable nominations, including Lead Comedy Actress for Ayo Edebiri, Guest Comedy Actress for Jamie Lee Curtis, and Guest Comedy Actor for the late Rob Reiner. But the rest of the cast, including past winners Jeremy Allen White, Riza Colon-Zayas and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, was left in the dust. No, chef!

Surprise: Chase Infinity “Testament”

Chase Infinity won her first Emmy Award for lead drama actress for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale spinoff Testament. (This only slightly made up for the Oscar snub after her phenomenal performance in “One Battle After Another,” but we’ll take it!)

SNUB: Everyone in the “industry”

Marisa Abela may have won a BAFTA for “Industry,” but the Emmys have yet to take notice of the show. Amanda Searle

Despite standout performances from the likes of Maihara, Ken Leon, Max Minghella, Kit Harington and Marisa Abella (who won a BAFTA last year for her work on the series), the show’s fourth (and best!) season was completely ignored. Somehow, the show still has zero Emmy nominations throughout its run, a number that would make even the bravest Pierpoint bankers go wild.

Surprise: Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, “Wonder Man”

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II became the first Marvel actor to be nominated for an Emmy Award for his role in Wonder Man since WandaVision. wonder

Marvel hasn’t gotten much love from the Emmys since 2021’s WandaVision, but Yahya Abdul-Mateen II managed to break through in the lead drama actor category for his role as the titular Wonder Man. The actor previously won an Emmy Award in 2020 for his role in Watchmen.

SNUB: Paul Anthony Kelly “Love Story”

Sarah Pidgeon was nominated for “Love Story,” but Paul Anthony Kelly was not considered.

Sarah Pidgeon was nominated for her role as Carolyn Bessette Kennedy in Ryan Murphy’s Love Story, but her on-screen lover Paul Anthony Kelly was snubbed for her role as John F. Kennedy Jr. But the actor still has exciting projects lined up next, including The Housemaid’s Secret, in which he co-stars with Sidney Sweeney (also a disqualified star of Euphoria), and, luckily, the 13th season of American Horror Story.

Surprise: ‘The Pit’ actors submitted themselves

Jeff Kober and Brittany Allen applied for Emmy consideration and both received nominations. max

“The Pit” received a ton of nominations, 25, but perhaps the most impressive came from two guest actors who ran their own campaigns without the help of HBO. Brittany Allen, who played a woman dying of cancer, and Jeff Kober, who played Dr. Robbie’s motorcycle buddy after a serious diagnosis, were both nominated for guest actor. This isn’t the first time HBO actors have taken a grassroots approach, with Alfie Allen, Gwendoline Christie and Carice Van Houten all applying themselves and being nominated to appear in the final season of Game of Thrones in 2019.

Other scorned actors include Kristen Bell and Adam Brody in “Nobody Wants This,” Jon Hamm in “Your Friends & Neighbors,” and Kailee Spaeny in “Beef.”
