Billy Joel’s ex-wife Katie Lee Biegel said she once had a not-so-friendly encounter with Chevy Chase.
The Food Network star recalled an awkward exchange on Thursday’s episode of his podcast, “All on the Table with Katie Lee Biegel,” when a listener asked him about the nicest and not-so-nice celebrities he’s met over the years.
“The one celebrity encounter that wasn’t great was Chevy Chase,” Biegel said.
She explained that the incident happened during her marriage to the “Piano Man” singer, whom she married in 2004 before divorcing in 2009.
Biegel claimed that after spending the summer with friends, he and Joel hosted an “old-fashioned keg party” at the house they planned to demolish.
“We decided to have a house teardown party, kind of a keg party, and I drank Jell-O shots and kegs. It was quite a star-studded party,” she recalled.
However, things took an awkward turn when Chase apparently mistook her for a member of the catering staff.
“My ex-husband was standing and talking to Chevy Chase and his wife, and I was holding a tray of Jell-O shots,” Biegel explained. “And I walked up with a tray of Jell-O shots and said, ‘Do you guys want some shots?’ And Chevrolet thought I was a party worker.”
“And he took my hand and drove me away,” she added.
A representative for Chase did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The “National Lampoon’s Vacation” star has long had a reputation for being difficult to work with, with former colleagues from projects such as “Saturday Night Live” and “Community” publicly speaking out about their conflicts with the actor over the years.
Fortunately, Biegel said not all of her celebrity encounters were negative.
The television personality said her favorite encounter with Jon Stewart was when she worked at the Sag Harbor Fish Market in the summer of 2003.
“He couldn’t have been a nicer person,” she said. “He was very kind. He was patient with me.”
