Flix Oven has launched an African and Korean filmmaker residency program and named “Mami Wata” director CJ Obasi as its inaugural fellow, the company announced at the Cannes Film Market. The Seoul-based company has partnered with Continental Entertainment, an African-focused expression and production company founded by Oji Menakaya, to bring African filmmakers to South Korea for extended training in script development. Mise en Scene Company (MSC) has acquired world sales rights to Dope Queens from writer-director Grafton Doyle and will introduce the title to buyers at the Cannes Film Market. The film was produced by Julio López Velazquez, whose credits include Back Run and Place in the Field, through his Tomorrowland Productions, in association with Create Entertainment along with John Reyes Doyle, Grafton Doyle, and Atit Shah. “Dope Queens” premiered at the Palm Springs International Film Festival earlier this year. The SAG-AFTRA Board of Directors on Monday approved a four-year agreement with the major studio, which includes a plan to merge the union’s two pension funds on January 1, 2028.
