The mother of “American Idol” finalist Kyra Richardson claims her daughter was “robbed” after the season 24 finale of the show, in which Kyra Richardson finished third.
“My baby was taken away from me,” Katya Richardson wrote on Facebook after Monday night’s ABC broadcast. “She didn’t fail, she got robbed, I’m sorry!!”
Keira, a 29-year-old teacher from Pensacola, Florida, placed behind winner Hannah Harper and runner-up Jordan McCullough in the live finale.
Richardson performed Alicia Keys’ “Un-Thinkable (I’m Ready)” before singing Whitney Houston’s “I Love The Lord” in the hometown corner.
Judge Luke Bryan praised her run on the show during a live broadcast.
“This past year, I’ve just watched you be so driven and determined and focused,” Brian said.
“We’ve seen you do everything you can for your family, your crew, your employees, and in our eyes, you’ve won.”
“I was so inspired just watching you capture every moment,” he added. “Congratulations, you did a great job.”
Despite her mother’s reaction, Richardson kept things upbeat, reflecting on her role on the show.
“The trip was amazing,” Richardson posted on Instagram. “#Idol has only just begun.”
The singer also shared a post on Tuesday with fellow “American Idol” alum Brianna Nicks, who finished third on season 23 last year.
“Season 23 & Season 24 3rd Place Finalist!” Richardson wrote.
“It’s not bad at all, it’s really amazing. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Now it’s time for real! I love you @breannanixmusic #idol #top3.”
The three-hour finale also featured performances by guest mentor Alicia Keys and judges Brian, Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie, who teamed up for a rendition of Richie’s “Deep River Woman.”
Underwood also performed with Motley Crue, joining the rock band on “Home Sweet Home” and “Kickstart My Heart.”
Other performers on the night included Brad Paisley, Cameron Whitcomb, Clay Aiken, Ann Vogue, Jason Mraz, Lee Ann Womack, Nelly, Shinedown, and Tori Kelly.
Blues Traveler and Gin Blossoms also appeared during the live broadcast.
Meanwhile, Harper reflected on her win in an Instagram post of her own.
“What a wild and beautiful journey this has been,” Harper wrote. “And somehow, we’re just getting started.”
“Thank you to everyone who believed in me, prayed for me, voted for me, and helped carry this dream farther than I ever imagined,” she added. “You all changed my life.”
