Universal has released a trailer for “Werewolf,” which will be released in theaters on December 25th.
The logline reads, “Mysterious creatures roam the foggy countryside in 13th century England, as local folklore becomes a terrifying reality for villagers.”
The trailer teases Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular monster, who undergoes a violent transformation that terrifies the townspeople. Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp will reunite with director Robert Eggers for this project after previously co-starring in Nosferatu. Willem Dafoe and Ralph Ineson also return in Egger’s latest horror period drama.
Jack Morris, Jan Busivort, Rich Edwards, and Bodhi Ray Bresnach also star, and Maiden Voyage’s Chris and Eleanor Columbus serve as executive producers. Eggers and Sean will co-write and produce The Northman in 2022 alongside Focus Features.
Focus Features has partnered on all of Eggers’ films, including the critically acclaimed Nosferatu, which will be released on Christmas Day 2024. In the film, Depp played a tormented young woman obsessed with the vampire Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård). Taylor-Johnson played Friedrich Harding, a skeptic who believes vampires don’t exist. Nicholas Hoult and Emma Corrin also starred in the film, which grossed $40 million in its Christmas premiere and went on to gross more than $181 million worldwide.
Director Eggers is no newcomer to the horror genre, having previously directed The Northman with Alexander Skarsgard and The Witch with Anya Taylor-Joy and Ineson. In 2019, he directed The Lighthouse, starring Robert Pattinson and Dafoe.
