Cynthia Eribo skipped 2025 Emmy. Eribo’s appearance in season 2 of PokerFace has earned her a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in the Comedy Series. This category was announced before the show, with Eribo losing to Hacking’s Julian Nicholson.
Cynthia Eribo was nominated for Tonight’s Emmy, but it wasn’t enough to bring out the star to the LA ceremony. She was appointed an outstanding guest actress in the comedy series for her multi-roll performance in season 2 of PokerFace. It was nominated for her second Emmy Award.
However, Eribo’s category was announced before the ceremony, and she was defeated by Julian Nicholson, who appeared in the hacking. Eribo was not a presenter and gave her no additional reason to take part in the show.
Still, she was recognized for good reason. In the premiere episode of the Peacock series, Eribo embodied Quintuplet Kazinsky Sisters. “I knew my head would be split into many different spaces, but ‘Well, if not now, when?'” she told the publication. “I was always open to trying out things I’ve never done before and wanted to do this. I wanted to understand what it’s like to play different characters at once and see if that was possible.”
Beyond Emmy’s nod, Eribo had a year of accomplishments. In January, the Evil Star was named the 2025 Women of the Year for Harvard’s Sudden Pudding play. A few months later, she won the Stephen F. Corzak Award at the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards for LGBTQ advocacy. While accepting honor, she emphasized the courage needed to appear as fully as she did, even when the world was not ready.
“I’ve talked about your whole and being your true self. I talk about prizes that come from being against your odds, but I rarely accept how difficult it is,” she said. “So I thought I would make some space for us who are trying to find the courage to exist the way we want.
Her second solo album, I Forgy You, dropped for critical acclaim in June, praised its vulnerability, emotional integrity and unexpected sound. “I loved what I did, I loved music, I loved making it, so the stones weren’t turned over to it,” she told The Associated Press.
Eribo is set to return to the magical land of Oz as Elphaba in evil times.
