The cast of Netflix’s Squid Game Season 2 did not attend the 2025 Emmys.
After a record-breaking first season followed by a splash at Emmy in 2022, he won 14 nominations and six wins – Netflix’s squid game returned to the Emmy race this year after Season 2 landed in late 2024.
When Emmy’s nomination was first announced earlier this year and the squid game was snub off the list, Netflix’s chief content manager Bellabaharia expressed surprise and disappointment. “Squid Games had an incredible cultural impact,” she told Variety in July 2025. “The world’s biggest show. That first season really made this history last season too. That’s how it should have.”
She said, “If you’re really watching TV excellence and storytelling excellence, I think it’s all in every respect. So when you tell it, yes, it’s amazing when it’s not recognized.”
However, there is another chance that the Squid game will win next year against Emmy voters, as the series’ third and final seasons (aired earlier this summer) will be eligible for the 2026 ceremony. And if rumors of a spin-off of the English squid game pan out, Emmy may have more candidates to consider future awards.
