“Fox and Friends” host Brian Kilmeade has announced an apology after proposing “unwilling fatal injections” as a solution to homeless people with mental disabilities during the airing.
During a brief appearance on Fox News Sunday morning, Kilmeade said, “We were discussing the murder of Irina Zalzka in Charlotte, North Carolina in the morning, and how to stop this type of attack by homeless, mentally ill attackers, including institutionalising or incarceration of such people. Not all mentally ill people act as they did in North Carolina, and so many homeless people deserve our empathy and compassion.”
Kilmeade’s controversial remarks came during Wednesday airing of him and his co-hosts Lawrence Jones and Ainsley Earhalt. The 23-year-old Ukrainian woman was stabbed and killed on a North Carolina train in August. According to CNN, attacker DeCarlos Brown had a record of mental illness and multiple previous beliefs.
Lawrence first insisted that “many” homeless people “don’t want to film (government) programs” and “don’t want to get help.” He suggested that the only solution for homeless people who refuse government assistance is that they are “confined in prison.” Kilmeade added, “Or involuntary fatal injections, etc. Just kill them.”
The commentary sparked anger over social media. California Governor Gavin Newsom was one of many people calling for Kilmeade. On his X account, he re-shared the soundbite of Kilmead, writing, “Proverbs 21:13: Anyone who closes his ears to the cry of the poor, is called to himself, and cannot answer.”
