Idris Elba, who was at the Venice Film Festival to announce Kathryn Bigelow’s “A House of Dynamite,” will be taking Apple TV+ to feature film adaptation of Neil Labute’s “This Is How It Goes” to Variety.
A tense, psychological thriller, Labute’s “This Is How It Go” tells the story of a couple who reunites an old-school acquaintance (obviously randomly) and offers to take him.
Elba starred in a 2005 West End Production play, along with Ben Chaplin and Megan Dodds, playing the character of Cody. He assumes another (still unnamed) role in screen adaptation.
No further cast has been announced yet.
Nathaniel Price (Mr. Loverman, The Outlaws) has written the screenplay for an original Apple film.
The project also illustrates the new creative partnership 22 Summers, production company Elba recently co-founded with Dien Pettard, Gina Carter and Gaummont. Together, they act as a film studio and produce original Apple films.
Elba’s directorial feature debut, “Yardie,” was released in 2018. It also oversees two upcoming features, “Mover the Bower” and “Infernus.”
“This Is How It Goes” is produced by Gina Carter from 22 Summers and Alison Jackson from Gaumont. Elba’s executives will be produced under the banner of 22 Summers, while Sydney Dumas is executive producer for Gaumant.
Elba has replaced Artists Partnership, The Lede Company, Johnson, Shapiro, Slewett & Kole.
Elba appeared as one of Apple TV+’s most popular creative talents after he produced the thriller series “Hijack.” After it became Greenlight in 2022, a sequel is also on the move.
