Drew Barrymore details her daughter’s tragic electric bike accident, and she landed in the hospital for several days.
The actress, who shares her daughters, Olive, 12, and 11-year-old Franky with her ex-husband Will Copelman, spoke about the horrifying incident while appearing on Thursday’s episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
The “Charlie’s Angels” star explained that he had plans to meet Colbert’s wife, but had to cancel after his daughter’s fall.
“My daughter had an accident when we were supposed to meet for the last time,” Barrymore said.
“I was like calling her,” she added, urging Colbert to ask if his daughter was okay. “She’s fine, yes. Everything’s fine,” Barrymore assured him.
“My daughter, in fact, she had an e-bike accident. It sounds really great in France,” Barrymore joked. “Yes, so we were in great France and she had an e-bike accident.”
The 50-year-old host of “Drew Barrymore Show” said her child was riding a bike deep in the mountains when she “opened her entire elbow.”
“We went in and out for days,” she revealed.
Barrymore continued to share how her savvy daughter understood how she could stop her bleeding from getting worse.
“She tore her bra and turned it into a tourniquet,” Barrymore was ecstatic.
Colbert expressed how impressed he was and pointed out that the two moms must have prepared them for the emergency.
“No! That’s who she is,” Barrymore added, “And I’m just marveling at her.”
Barrymore has raved about her children on previous Colbert shows. Barrymore, who appeared at the CBS show in January, described her daughter as “North Star.”
“They’re really, really good. Every day is different. Every hour is different. They’re my North Star, my compass,” Barrymore said.
She continued. “I was able to live before I knew them, and my priorities were different. And ever since I came to the world, I have understood what my purpose in life is. It’s wild.”
Barrymore shared a deep belief that she was “placed on this planet to raise a girl.”
“I know I’m everything and I care so much, and although I’m incomplete, I’m going to do everything I can to make this my best and it’s fun,” she said. “It’s humorous, tasty and wonderful. And they’re everything I do.”
