The first clip of Annemarie Jacir’s “Palestine 36” was released as the film prepares for its world premiere at Toronto INTL. Film festival.

Jasil’s historical epic (“Sea Salt”, “When I See You”, “Wajib”) is set amidst the heightened tensions of the Palestinian uprising over British decades of control of the region. The film is a Palestinian entry into the international feature on Oscar Race.

The story follows a young man who gets caught up in political upheaval as tensions grow in Jerusalem and his village amidst the British crackdown urged by the arrival of Jewish immigrants in escaping European anti-Semitism. Read the overview, “History is merciless.” It adds that “every aspect spirals towards an inevitable collision at a critical moment in the future of the British Empire and the region as a whole.”

The film stars Hiam Abbas, Jeremy Irons, Karim Daoud Anaya, Saleh Bakri (“Blue Caftan”), Robert Aramayo (“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” TIFF title “I Swear”), Billy Howle (“The Perfect Couple”), Liam Cunningham (“Game of Thrones”), Dafer L’Abidine (“Children of Men”) and Yasmine Al-Massri (“I Was a Stranger”).
