Trinity Cineasia has secured UK distribution rights to Jackie Chan’s latest action, The Shadow’s Edge, and set the theatrical release date for the thriller on October 3rd.
Distributors across Europe have acquired British rights from Golden Network Asia Limited for the film directed by Larry Yang, which won $122 million worldwide during the third weekend of its release. The film currently ranks number one on both the box office revenue in China and the global Comscore chart.
The film marks the reunion of Chan and Tony Leung Ka-Fai, who last collaborated on “The Myth” 20 years ago. In “The Shadow’s Edge,” 71-year-old Chang plays retired chase expert Won Tak-cheon.
Action-Heist Film is a modernized remake of 2007’s Milkyway Classic “Eye in the Sky.” This has been updated to reflect how traditional police tactics must unite with cutting-edge technology to catch elite cybercrime gangs. The story follows a crew of crime geniuses who disappear with billions of people, while avoiding capture by outmartting the terrifying “Sky Eye” surveillance system.
For Leung Ka-Fai, the role represents his return to the villain archetype from his original “Eye in the Sky” performance.
“We are excited to bring this bold new action thriller to the big screen and present it as intended after a massive success in mainland China. “Jackie Chang remains an action film icon, and his longevity is a testament to this, and with both director Larry Yang and co-star Tony Leon Car Fai, he has found a great collaborator who can truly push him in a fresh and creative way, acknowledging the enduring legacy of his work.”
“‘The Shadow’s Edge’ features great support in supporting a new talent, and once again proves that there is a future for Hong Kong cinema both at home and abroad,” added Behrel.
The cast includes Zhang Zifeng (“Detective Chinatown 3”), Ci Sha (“The Creation of Gods Trilogy”), Jun (Wen Junhui) and Zhou Zhengjie. The China-Hong Kong co-production was lensed by Nicolas Errèra’s music and Qian Tiantian.
