The 2025 Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival has announced a selection of opening and closing nights. Chen Yu Ha-seung’s “The Tale of Fog” premiered the world, and Titsya’s “Dear Stranger” concluded the blessings with West Jimima and Gwailunmei.
Chen Yu-Hsun, the winner of the Multi-Golden Horse Award behind “My Missing Valentine,” returns with “A Foggy Tale,” which countered Taiwan’s white terrorist era. The film follows a Chiai girl traveling north to retrieve her brother’s body. Cast includes Caitlin Fang (“American Girl”), Will or (“Drifting”), Singer 9M88 and Tseng Jing-Hua.
“When I was a little boy, I was always excited to see the opening of a department store where everything looked so bright and cheerful. That would be a bit of a wish for me,” Chen said. “Now my dream is to hold the Golden Horse Film Festival for my films. I am deeply happy and truly honored.”
Executive producer Yeh Jufeng described the story as “a flashback and review of the era, as well as a firm belief in authentic friendship and human nature.” Executive producer Lee Lieh added, “I don’t dare to encourage him to be the best,” but “I believe in this film strictly and hope that this authenticity and integrity will reach all viewers.”
The closing film “Dear Stranger” reunites Japanese director Mariko with an audience of Golden Horse, following his previous fest entries, “Destruction Babies” and “Miyamoto.” The thriller stars Nishijima and Guway as married couples in New York, where a seemingly happy life is unleashed after his son is lured, revealing his hidden past and suppressing his emotions.
“I’m so grateful to be part of this film. It’s going back to the starting point of acting and opening a new door to artistic creation for me,” Gwei said. “I am grateful to Golden Horse for inviting me to this film and I am honored to share it with you.
The festival presents a retrospective of Nishijima Hidetoshi featuring three of his important performances. Kuronori Kiyoshi’s “License of License” (1998) won Best Actor at the Japanese Professional Film Awards. Amir Nadeli’s “Cut” (2011); and Ryosuke’s “Drive My Car” (2021) “Drive My Car” (2021).
The festival will be held from November 6th to 23rd.
