German beta films and French Media One’s rights have worked together to handle international sales in some regions of Italian Auter Marco Bellocchio’s “Porto Bello” television series, reconstructing one of Italy’s most crumpled justice traves.
The 6-Episode Remitted series wins Bowes on Monday at the Venice Film Festival.
As previously announced, “Portobello” will be the first HBO original Italian production to be released on the HBO Max streaming platform, which will debut in 2026. This series will be available on HBO Max, including the US, Latin America and Europe, except France and Germany.
“Portobello” delves into the true story of popular Italian television host Enzo Tortora. Among other programs, Enzo Tortora held a primetime game show titled “Portobello,” which aired on the Italian provincial broadcaster RAI, which began seven seasons in 1977.
In 1985, Tortola was accused of several suspects of being suspected of becoming informants, and state witnesses became national witnesses as part of a Naples crime syndicate dedicated to drug trafficking. After being sentenced to 10 years in prison and spending some time behind bars, Tortola’s conviction was ultimately completely overturned by the Italian Supreme Court amid widespread belief that the TV host was a victim of corrupt judges and prosecutors.
The “Portobello” cast is often made up of Bellocchio collaborator Fabrizio Gifni, as well as Lino Musella, Romana Magiola Bergano, Barbora Boblova, Alessandro Presiosi and Fausto Russo Alesi.
Gifuni previously starred as former Italian Prime Minister Aldomoro in Bellocchio’s limited television series, Exterior Night, about the 1978 invitation and assassination of the country’s leadership by Red Brigade terrorists.
“Portobello” is produced in parallel with our film, which Bellocchio’s Kavac films owned by Media One. This is also a collaboration with Fremantle’s The Apartment Pictures, which was co-produced by Arte France. “Portobello” is written by Bellocchio along with Stefano Bises (“Gomorrah”), Giordana Mari (“My Love”) and Peppe fiore (“The King”).
After Venice, Portobello will also be screened at film festivals in Toronto and Busan.
