Emma Roberts walked down the Virgin Road in a custom-made Monique Lhuillier vintage-inspired dress for her wedding to Cody John.
The “American Horror Story” star said “I do” in Sun Valley, Idaho, on Saturday, wearing an off-white silk chiffon tea-stained gown.
“I wanted to look like a ghost, a little antique ghost doll,” she told Vogue during the final dress fitting with her bridesmaids ahead of the wedding.
“I really didn’t know what I wanted,” said Roberts, 35, explaining how she and Lhuillier designed the dress from scratch.
The dress was made of silk chiffon, with a custom color later named “Antique Rose” by Lhuillier to give it a “fantasy, romantic, vintage-inspired” effect.
The actress also incorporated a corset and a high slit on the left side of her leg for more freedom of movement.
As a finishing touch, Lhuillier and Roberts added a removable asymmetrical shawl. The latter could be removed after the ceremony for a strapless look.
The “We’re the Mirrors” star wore a traditional sheer veil and an Old Hollywood-style mini veil that was long enough to cover her eyes and could be pushed back like a headband.
“I wanted it to have a vintage feel. I’m into antique books and treasure hunting, and I love collecting old ephemera, so I wanted that to shine in the dress,” she said.
The “Aquamarine” star admitted that she felt pressured while creating the dress, especially after wearing a wedding dress in a past movie.
“I once got married in a movie, and I tried on a wedding dress for it and it felt really weird,” Roberts told the magazine. “Now, the real thing begins.”
Lhuillier told Vogue that the dress took 1,000 hours and nine months to complete, explaining that there were “five looks” for the dress.
Roberts said she felt like an “elf” when she tried on the gown for the first time. “I said I like looking like a ghost, and they made it beautiful.”
When the “Nancy Drew” star showed the dress to her bridal party, including her mother Kelly Cunningham, her mother burst into tears.
“Are you serious?” one of her friends asked the bride in a video published by Vogue.
Roberts became emotional when John saw her, theorizing that “he likes whatever I like. He wouldn’t care if I wore jeans.”
Lhuillier also designed a second black corseted tea-length two-piece set, consisting of a hand-cut layered skirt, from Roberts’ Fall 2004 collection.
“I like the idea of wearing black to the afterparty,” Roberts told the magazine. “We love to do something a little unexpected, and this looks like it could be totally 100 years old vintage, or vintage now. This would be a lot of fun at an afterparty in Idaho.”
Roberts and John, who got engaged in July 2024, said they would “get engaged” on the grounds of his parents’ home. John wore a classic tuxedo for his special day.
