The Big Bang Theory star Stuart Bloom may not have saved the universe, but he certainly saved San Diego Comic-Con.
HBO Max’s upcoming spinoff Stuart Can’t Save the Universe gave fans a sneak peek of the first episode ahead of its Thursday night release. Felicia Day hosted a panel discussion with Kevin Sussman, who reprises his role as Stuart from “The Big Bang Theory.” Lauren Lapkus plays Dennis. John Ross Bowie plays Kripke. Brian Posen plays Bart. Also on the panel were the show’s co-creators, executive producers, and writers Chuck Lorre, Zac Penn, and Bill Prady.
The first episode featured some surprise appearances from the cast of “The Big Bang Theory,” and Prady teased that fans can expect more throughout the season, including the return of smaller characters in spin-offs. “The Big Bang Theory” hosted several panels at San Diego Comic-Con over the years and became a favorite among attendees. “Stuart Couldn’t Save the Universe” marked the series’ return after the main series ended in 2019.
This is the first “Big Bang Theory” show to use a single camera, rather than the four-camera sitcom model. “The four-camera audience show puts on plays every week, but there’s not much you can do other than sit on the couch and talk to each other. As you saw earlier, I wanted to do a lot of things. The easy solution to that was to shoot it like a movie,” Lorre said during the panel discussion. DC Comics’ Jim Lee also guested on the panel and talked about the exclusive comic book cover art for “Stuart Couldn’t Save the Universe.”
According to the show’s logline, “Stuart Bloom, a comic book store owner, is tasked with restoring reality after he destroys a device built by Sheldon and Leonard and accidentally causes multiworld Armageddon. Stuart is aided in this quest by his girlfriend Dennis, his geologist friend Bart, and quantum physicist and all-around hard worker Barry Kripke. Along the way, they meet otherworldly versions of the characters we’ve come to know and love.” “The Big Bang Theory”. As the title suggests, things don’t go well. ”
The series is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with Kyle Newacheck executive producing and directing multiple episodes. New episodes are released every Thursday at 6pm PT.
“Stuart Saves the Universe” is the fourth series to join the “Big Bang Theory” universe. The show of the same name ran for 12 seasons on CBS, followed by the prequel “Young Sheldon” for seven seasons. That show’s spinoff, “George and Mandy’s First Wedding,” was just renewed for a third season.
