Mary Kate Golding, a stage decorator for films such as “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Goosebumps” and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” was stabbed to death in Queens, New York, on Tuesday. She was 34 years old.
Police were called to her apartment just after midnight. “On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at approximately 12:24 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of an assault within the confines of the 114th Precinct, 18-64 41st Street. Upon arrival, officers found a 34-year-old female victim suffering from a stab wound to the back. EMS responded and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene,” the NYPD said in a statement.
Hours later, around 6:39 a.m., Ms. Golding’s husband, Joseph Azaretto, was found hanged in Astoria Park. According to multiple media reports, murder and suicide are suspected. The couple’s baby son was found in their home, but was not injured.
“On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at approximately 6:39 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of an unconscious person in the area of Astoria Park South and Shore Boulevard within the limits of the 114th Precinct. Upon arrival, officers located an unidentified male, approximately 30-35 years old, unconscious and unresponsive in the park. EMS responded and pronounced the male,” the NYPD said in a statement. He died at the scene. ”
Golding was scheduled to work on director Sean Durkin’s new film Deep Cuts. Her previous credits as a set decorator include Gone Girls: Long Island Serial Killer, Full Circle, Extrapolation, Marry Me, and Hawkeye.
After attending New York University, she received her first credit as an assistant on Michael Showalter’s The Big Sick, and went on to work on Time After Time, An Imperfect Murder, The Cruise, Deception, Gotham, Raise’s Tale, and The Flight Attendant.
A few years ago, Azaretto’s brother shot and killed their father, Frank Azaretto, during a fight with their mother, the Daily News reported. Frank Azaretto worked in the art department on the television series Daredevil and Unforgettable.
