Next year, Disney+ will release a documentary about star Julie Andrews from director and producer RJ Cutler (Billie Eilish, Martha).
According to the project description, “This definitive portrait is an intimate and revealing portrait of Andrews’ extraordinary journey, from her early days in British vaudeville to her meteoric rise as a global superstar. Characterized by resilience, heartbreak, reinvention, and enduring grace, her story transcends the spotlight far beyond the spotlight.”
The documentary about the star of iconic films such as “Mary Poppins,” “The Sound of Music” and “The Princess Diaries” will include “rare, never-before-seen archival footage and candid new interviews.”
The official title and 2027 release date will be announced at a later date.
Andrews’ documentary was produced by Cutler with Trevor Smith, Elise Perlstein, Jane Cha Cutler and Jonathan Luan. Mark Blatty will serve as executive producer. The project comes from Sony Pictures Television’s This Machine.
“Julie Andrews is not just a beloved performer,” Cutler said. “She is a cultural touchstone, a figure woven into the fabric of how generations of people understand joy, resilience, and grace. Most people don’t know the extraordinary hardships she had to overcome throughout her life, all of which are explored in this film. It’s a pleasure to sit down with Julie and enter her inner world. Watching her reflect on her life and shaping the lives of so many others was an experience I will cherish forever. She gave us who she is, without armor or pretense, and what we found was that I was humbled by her talent, in awe of her strength, and honored by her trust.”
