Cole Hauser took on the “challenge” of filming “Dutton Ranch” without Taylor Sheridan on set.
“Everything has changed,” the actor who plays Rip Wheeler told Film Inside, noting that the creators of the “Yellowstone” spinoff are executive producers rather than in the writers’ room.
“Taylor wasn’t there…the only normalcy we had was just[Finn Little’s character]Carter,[director]Christina[Alexandra Voros][co-star]Kelly[Reilly]and me,” he said, explaining “working with these new screenwriters[and]these new directors.”
“There have been challenges,” said the 51-year-old, who clarified: “I enjoy the challenges. It’s definitely been a challenge.”
“It was all about keeping my head down and focusing on what was around me,” he continued. “I worked hard this year.”
Hauser said that “a lot of the outside noise” about the “weight” of the hit show didn’t feel “much” to him at the time.
“We actually had to figure out for ourselves how to perform and tell the story,” he recalls. “So I’m proud of what we accomplished and I look forward to doing it again.”
Representatives for Mr. Sheridan did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Production on season 2 of the drama is scheduled to begin in January.
Hauser’s co-star, Ed Harris, who plays Everett McKinney, is reportedly returning from the series on Tuesday after he was talked about as wanting to “get through with it.”
The “furious” 75-year-old claimed he was “underused” and “misunderstood” about his role during a red carpet rant to Variety earlier this week.
“Before I signed on, there was quite a bit of talk about what the season would be, what my character would do, and that I would be one of the four main characters,” he claimed. “And that really wasn’t the case.”
Harris claimed his concerns were ignored during the broadcast and slammed his singing scene, which was subsequently cut from the show.
However, he did not mention Sheridan’s name in the interview.
Sheridan created “Yellowstone” in 2018, and the Paramount show ran for five seasons before the “Dutton Ranch” spinoff premiered in May.
The 57-year-old “Landman” creator reportedly signed a deal with NBCUniversal last year following alleged issues with Paramount management.
