Jon Stewart says World Cup final was ‘a come-from-behind Super Bowl’

On Monday night’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart gave his post-game thoughts on Sunday’s World Cup final, Spain’s 1-0 win over Argentina.

“Of course, the World Cup ended yesterday with Finito, with Spain beating Argentina 1-0 on the soccer pitch,” Stewart said at the start of the show. “The final between Spain and Argentina was like the Super Bowl in reverse, with the players speaking Spanish and the halftime show in English.”

Madonna, Justin Bieber and the Muppets performed at the World Cup final halftime show, the first in tournament history. Stewart noted the Count from “Sesame Street” who was there to celebrate the game with Kermit and Miss Piggy.

“Why in the name of God would you have vampires working during the day when you have so many Muppets?” Stewart joked. “Not only in the glare of the afternoon sun, but for most of the game the score was 0-0! I’m making fun of the poor bastard! ‘I’ve been sitting in traffic for an hour, two hours, three hours for this.'”

Stewart then, of course, turned his attention to President Donald Trump’s presence at the game. He focused on the awkward moment when Trump remained on stage to participate in the trophy hoisting, a moment usually reserved for “players only.”

“What the hell are you doing on stage?” Stewart shouted. “It’s for the players! Damn it! Why does everything have to be tainted by Canculus Muldoon’s inflated ego? Why?”
