“Saturday Night Live” boss Lorne Michaels was in a bit of a bind when he got the call from Chloe Fineman telling him she was leaving the show.
“Typically, he was watching England vs. Argentina,” Feynman told Variety at the premiere of Apple TV’s “The Dink” in Los Angeles on Monday night. “He was like, ‘I’ll call you back. I’m a competitive guy.'” And I was like, “Soccer game?” Then I joked and said, “I think you’re rooting for England because you’re energetically very British.” Then he called me and we had a really nice conversation. ”
Feynman also said that he became very emotional when the news of his departure from “SNL” broke.
“I cried when it was announced,” she said. “I’ve really become a family with[the cast]…I cried when I got the call from Colin Jost today, telling me they really are my family. After seven years, I’m glad to be leaving on a good note.”
Feynman announced on July 16 that he would be leaving the show. “After seven incredible seasons on ‘SNL,’ I’ve decided it’s time to move on to the next chapter,” Feynman wrote in an Instagram post. She concluded, “It’s really hard to leave SNL, but it feels like the right time. I’m going to miss it tremendously. But the people who work there are my family and that place is my home. I know I’ll never be far away.”
The actor and comedian joined ‘SNL’ in 2019. She quickly became known for her wide range of impressions, including Jennifer Coolidge, Timothée Chalamet, Drew Barrymore, Britney Spears, and JoJo Siwa.
Feynman’s first post-“SNL” gig will be as a series regular on Netflix’s “Myron Bolitar,” which is currently in production. Series regulars also include Jabari Banks (“Bel Air”) and Jamie McShane (“Tusk,” “Wednesday”). Ben McKenzie (“Everybody Lies for Money,” “Gotham”) will appear as a recurring guest star.
The series stars include Colin Woodell, KJ Apa, and Diane Guerrero. Netflix originally announced the series pickup in May as part of a pre-presentation to advertisers. The show is inspired by Harlan Coben’s popular books Myron Bolitar, 12 of which have been published. The show’s logline reads, “After an injury ends his NBA dreams, Myron Bolitar (Wodell) makes a fresh start as a sports agent. He uses his charm, smarts, and ruthless partners to navigate the high-stakes, dirty world of sports. Saving his clients often means putting himself at risk.”
In addition to Feynman, the cast of the pickleball sports comedy The Dink includes Jake Johnson, Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor, Patton Oswalt, Martin Kove, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris, and tennis legends Andy Roddick and John McEnroe.
“The Dink” premieres on Apple TV on July 24th.
