Kim Kardashian was forced to explain why she posted a vacation photo to Instagram shortly after news broke of her grandmother’s death.
“This post was planned just days before we lost MJ, and the timing was right before she passed away,” she explained in the comments section of Thursday’s post, responding to confused fans.
“I’ve been by my mom and grandma’s side this past week. My heart is completely with the family right now. We love her so much and miss her so much. And in the coming days, we’re going to focus on celebrating her beautiful life 🕊️🤍.”
On Thursday, Kris Jenner announced that her mother, Mary Jo “MJ”, had passed away. She was 91 years old.
“Today we said goodbye to our beautiful mama MJ. 😞💔,” the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star said in part in a lengthy eulogy via Instagram.
But just minutes after Jenner’s post, the Skims co-founder shared a merry-go-round photo from her recent lakeside vacation with her kids, sister Khloe, and boyfriend Lewis Hamilton.
Fans quickly flocked to the comments section to slam the reality star for her “unfortunate” timed upload.
“MJ died and you posted this? Amazing,” one person wrote. “Daughter, what happened to grandma!?” asked another.
A third added: “Didn’t my grandma just pass away? I couldn’t wait until the weekend 😕.”
However, other fans came to Kardashian’s defense, pointing out that she must have a content calendar planned out over many weeks.
“Do you really think she intentionally posted this at the same time as announcing her grandma’s death? It’s clearly a planned post. Get it right,” one advocate said.
“Why can’t she post? Scheduled or not scheduled? You guys are so weird,” wrote another.
The “American Horror Story” actress finally posted a tribute to her grandmother on Thursday, when a photo from her vacation was posted.
“My sweet grandma MJ, my best friend, my gossip buddy, my eternal twin… you taught us all the importance of family, and those values are something we will carry with us forever!!!!!” she wrote alongside a carousel of snaps taken together over the years.
“You were the woman who taught me what it meant to be a hard-working businesswoman. You gave me my first job at your store in San Diego and taught me lessons about work ethic, strength, and confidence that I have carried with me ever since,” the 45-year-old continued.
“You have always believed in me, defended me and been my safe place. You truly are the matriarch of our family and your love is woven into all of us. I know you are at peace now. Hug me to Papa Harry, Aunt Karen and my father. You will always be a part of me, I love you so much and I will miss you forever. 🤍 You are the best of us!!!”
