Craig Melvin spoke out about the Today intruder incident on social media Thursday, telling his followers he’s okay.
Melvin posted on Instagram: “Hey everyone. So many of you have reached out to me in the last few hours. I’m fine.”
He continued, “Thank you for reaching out. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning on @todayshow.”
Earlier in the day, Page Six confirmed that a man looking for Al Roker was arrested after confronting Melvin on the steps of the NBC show’s New York headquarters.
The intruder, who was reportedly carrying a backpack, slipped through security and lunged at Melvin while hurling racial slurs at him during an 8-10 second exchange.
Sources told The Post that he requested face-to-face time with Roker, 71, and called Melvin, 47, the N-word. Melvin called security and the man was detained and arrested.
Melvin and Roker began broadcasting shortly afterward, but did not mention the incident.
The New York City Police Department confirmed to Page Six that they have someone in custody.
“On Thursday, July 16, 2026, at approximately 8:57 a.m., uniformed officers assigned to 30 Rockefeller Center received a report of a disorderly person in the building,” the statement said.
“Shortly thereafter, responding officers entered the building and took the individual into custody without incident. There are no reports of injuries and the investigation remains active and ongoing.”
“Today” addressed the “security incident” in a statement to Page Six on Thursday afternoon.
“An individual entered an unauthorized area of the vestibule near Studio 1A,” the statement said. “The individual approached anchor Craig Melvin and alerted security.”
The NBC program confirmed that the intruder was “taken into custody and taken into custody by law enforcement without incident” and that “there were no altercations or injuries.”
“Today we are fully cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate this matter,” the statement added.
According to sources, Today’s staff are shaken by the incident.
“They were already nervous because of Savannah,” the source said, referring to the February disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie.
The source added: “He could have stabbed Craig. He could have planted a bomb. This is just insane.”
Melvin confirmed Wednesday that he will be taking time off next week on “Today” for his pre-planned summer vacation.
Taylor Twellman, a former men’s national soccer team player and NBC’s lead MLS analyst, will replace Melvin.
Meanwhile, Guthrie announced Thursday that he will be absent from the show for “several weeks” to film a new Wardle series on NBC.
She was on “Today” leave in February and March following an incident in which her mother was believed to have been kidnapped.
