Paulina Porizkova said “I think so,” but Bridal White didn’t.
The 61-year-old supermodel married comedy writer Jeff Greenstein, 63, in Italy on July 3, and chose a custom wedding dress that she described as a color that was “beyond color.”
The choice to eschew tradition has little to do with the virginal connotations of white, she told Vogue, and more to do with everyday work.
The Czech-born beauty spent years wearing bridal white during her modeling heyday in the 1980s, appearing on several covers of Brides magazine and starring in Estée Lauder’s Beautiful fragrance campaign in a veil and white dress.
To create something more personal and unique for her wedding, she turned to the House of Jill, a New York haute couture atelier run by Jill Mendel and her daughter Chloe Mendel-Cogan.
“I wanted the color to be something that wasn’t a color. It’s something that’s indescribable and elusive. So you can’t say, ‘She wore a yellow dress,’ or ‘She wore a pink dress,'” she explained to Vogue.
Director Porizkova gave two examples of directing based on screen sirens. Grace Kelly’s blue dress in To Catch a Thief and Lauren Hutton’s Halston at the 1975 Oscars.
The bet paid off. At the reception, one of the attendees informed the bride that her dress matched the color she had glimpsed while taking recreational ketamine, “the color of the elements.” It means an indescribable color, like water. ”
The final design is form-fitting and transparent, showing off the results of a workout, and Porizkova said it kicks up “about 10 steps” but flows “like water.” This is also what she wanted from the designer.
Her only jewelry was a pair of teardrop earrings that her sons gave her for her 60th birthday, but she added a veil, also by House of Jill, and matching fabric flowers in her hair.
The groom also went custom, ordering a blue wool suit cut to fit his 6-foot-7 frame.
The wedding at Villa Crespi in Horta San Giulio will be the couple’s second marriage. Porískova was married to Cars frontman Ric Ocasek from 1989 until they separated in 2018. He passed away in 2019 at the age of 75.
She and Greenstein matched on a dating app in 2023 and got engaged in July 2025 in the Czech Republic.
