Netflix and DreamWorks Animation veteran Shannon Olivas has joined Fox’s ad-supported streaming giant Tubi to serve as head of communications and publicity.
Olivas will lead Fox Tubi’s communications strategy for consumer, advertiser, product and entertainment PR and corporate communications. Olivas’ appointment follows the promotion of former Tubi communications chief Sheena Sullivan to Fox’s senior vice president of corporate communications, where she oversaw Tubi. Olivas will report to Nicole Parlapiano, Tubi’s Chief Marketing Officer.
“Shannon brings a rare combination of studio-level communications expertise and true builder’s instincts,” Parlapiano said. “Her proven track record of shaping brands at scale and telling stories that resonate make her the perfect leader to elevate Tubi’s voice as we continue to expand globally. We couldn’t be more excited to have her head up our global communications and public affairs team.”
Olivas comes to Tubi after most recently serving as head of corporate communications for Q Health, where he helped the at-home coronavirus testing company launch its IPO and grow its direct-to-consumer business. Previously, Olivas held senior communications positions at The Wonderful Company, Netflix, Skydance Media, The Honest Company, and DreamWorks Animation.
Tubi has expanded its depth and breadth since being acquired by Fox in March 2020 for $440 million in cash. The platform is currently being courted by creators and independent filmmakers to serve as a platform for discovering new talent, as well as a vast archive of film and TV titles. The platform currently has approximately 100 million monthly active users and streams approximately 1 billion hours of content each month.
“Tubi’s growth and scale has given us a deeper understanding of what our viewers like, improving our ability to deliver content and experiences that turn them into passionate fans,” said Olivas. “I’m excited to join this talented team and look forward to finding new ways to break through with bigger and bolder stories about the content, creators, and culture that make Tubi unique in entertainment.”
