Sunny Hostin reportedly asked police if they knew who she was when her son Gabriel was arrested for a trespassing violation in New York last month.
The View co-host, a former federal prosecutor and lawyer, spoke by phone to officers at the scene after Gabriel, 24, was caught jogging along the MTA tracks and ignoring a “no trespassing” sign, according to the New York Post.
“They were only talking to the child because it was trespassing, but the mother took issue with it,” a source told the publication. “She wanted to know why he was stopped and why they were talking to him.”
Hostin, 57, allegedly asked officers if they knew who he was before revealing his name to The View.
“She told me I was Sunny Hostin and I was on ‘The View,'” the source claimed.
She declined comment when The Post reached her by phone Monday.
Gabriel was stopped on June 16 near 24 Station Plaza in New Rochelle, New York, after he was spotted “violating a no trespassing sign on the right side of active railroad tracks,” according to court records.
Prior to a court appearance scheduled for July 31, Hostin wrote a letter to the DA’s office asking for the case to be dismissed. She introduced herself as her son’s lawyer.
“My client is a 2025 Harvard graduate with no criminal history or contact with the criminal justice system,” the television personality said in a court letter obtained by TMZ. “He is an avid runner and former Junior Olympic track and field athlete who used to train in the area.”
Hostin said the “No Trespassing” sign on the entrance gate was not visible at the time because the gate was left open.
“He reasonably believed the area was accessible and had no intention of unlawfully trespassing on private property,” she wrote.
Ms Hostin said her son was facing “unnecessary consequences” for an “honest mistake”.
“Dismissal would avoid imposing unnecessary consequences on a young man who has demonstrated exceptional character and accomplishments and who poses no danger to the community,” she wrote.
Hostin and her husband, orthopedic surgeon Emmanuel Hostin, have a son, Gabriel, and a 20-year-old daughter, Paloma. They were married in August 1998.
She has been a co-host on “The View” since 2016.
