Jennifer Lopez is nothing if not a fashion maverick.
The multi-hyphenate turned up to the Wimbledon 2026 men’s singles final on Sunday with an oversized straw hat covering his face and caused a stir with his choice of accessory.
Lopez wore a cream-toned Ralph Lauren wrap dress for Sunday’s game, which she paired with cane-heel sandals. The dress is vintage, and was first shown on the Spring/Summer 2009 runway, albeit with an obviously smaller topper.
The singer is seated in the Royal Box, which comes with its own list of dress code requirements.
The official website states: “We ask that women not wear hats, as they tend to obstruct the view of those seated behind you.”
While it’s true that Lopez technically broke the rules, especially in the current heat wave, many in the Royal Box seemed lost, wearing both small hats or wide-brimmed hats to protect their faces from the sun.
In fact, right next to Lopez, many wore modest Ralph Lauren caps, with Nicole Kidman and Duchess Kate herself spreading their brim for part of the match. Princess Charlotte and countless others around her also chose Wimbledon’s official Panama hat.
But the enormity of Lopez’s selection seems to have gone too far, at least according to tennis fans.
The hat quickly became the source of many Wimbledon jokes on social media.
One X user wrote that the hat “may be casting a shadow on the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome,” while another user responded, “Providing a solar eclipse to the entire back row.”
One comment read: “Looks like JLo made a hat out of an Amazon box!”
Either encouraged or by choice, she eventually took off her hat, giving everyone around her an unobstructed view of the game, including Kinnear Erivo (newsboy cap and all), who was sitting on her right shoulder.
