Ariana Grande will not be appearing in Season 13 of American Horror Story due to scheduling conflicts related to her Eternal Sunshine tour, Page Six has confirmed.
The 33-year-old “Thank You, Next” hitmaker was originally announced as a cast member for the Ryan Murphy-directed horror series in October, but was unable to change his filming schedule after production dates were changed.
A source told Deadline that the pop star has not done any filming for his next movie.
Grande was expected to join Murphy’s star-studded cast, which includes familiar faces from previous seasons such as Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Jessica Lange, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, John Waters, Frances Conroy, and Leslie Grossman.
Additionally, John Carroll Lynch, Mena Suvari, and Matt Fraser are said to be returning as characters.
Stars like Paul Anthony Kelly, Berto Colon and Joey Pollari (all of whom have appeared in other Murphy projects) are also set to make their AHS debuts in the new season.
The cast is rounded out by newcomer Alex Consani and “Not Fit for Work” star Avantika.
It remains unclear what Grande’s role will be in this project, which is typical of Murphy’s work, as details are typically kept closely under wraps.
When asked what he would bring to the new season in his franchise debut, the “Wicked” star told Variety in November: “I know a little bit about (the role), but I can’t say what I know.”
“It’s probably going to be a very small thing for me to do, but I’m grateful to be a part of it because I love everyone involved.”
Grande previously starred in another of Murphy’s hit series, Scream Queens, in 2015, co-starring Roberts, Lard, Abigail Breslin, Lea Michele, and Keki Palmer.
The Academy Award-nominated actress has been busy lately with tour bookings, but recently she had to reschedule some dates due to production issues.
The July 12 performance at New York’s Barclays Center has been postponed to July 14, along with two concerts at Boston’s TD Garden.
The two performances, originally scheduled for July 22nd and July 24th, have been rescheduled to July 23rd and July 26th, respectively.
At the time, Grande said in a social media statement that she was “deeply disappointed” in the rescheduled date, but said it was necessary to “deliver the show safely and as intended.”
The tour is in support of the Grammy Award winner’s seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine, due for release in 2024.
