Lil Wayne infuriated fans by not taking the stage on the first night of his 20 Years of Carter Classics tour in Maine on Tuesday.
Rapper Lil Wayne, 43, was scheduled to headline the first show of the tour at Bangor’s Maine Savings Amphitheater, but after opener 2 Chainz performed and a DJ entertained the crowd, Lil Wayne never showed up.
His set was scheduled to begin at 10:45 p.m., but by 11 p.m. the crowd was informed that the show had ended.
No explanation was given as to why the Grammy winner was absent from the performance.
According to local broadcaster WABI, Waterfront Concerts president Alex Gray apologized to the crowd and said this was the first time something like this had happened in the company’s 251-show history.
Gray said the venue asked the city to extend the curfew and did everything possible to hold the concert.
Fans could not contain their disappointment.
“Well, I came here for Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz and it was the most awful experience,” Rita Sack, who went to the concert, told the outlet. She said she drove more than six hours from Nova Scotia to attend the show.
“Don’t worry about the money. It’s like, it’s just a moment in your life, and it’s going to be a moment,” she continued. “[My friend]just dropped off her 6-month-old baby for the first time. It’s people’s time now. Don’t waste people’s time.”
“We paid for Lil Wayne. All you can do is come out for a second and apologize, you know?” Sack added. “Please take a moment and be like, ‘Hey guys, I’m sorry, I’m not feeling well, I’m feeling a little off.'”
Lil Wayne, who was recently reported to be engaged to a woman in her 20s, also faced backlash online after posting unrelated content to X on Wednesday morning, and fans flooded with comments criticizing him for not attending the concert.
“You are a POS wasting Bangors money!!!!” one person wrote.
“I was front row at the show in Maine! My fiancé and I were so excited to see you! It was a gift for her and you ruined the night by not coming!” another person replied.
Late Wednesday night, Lil Wayne apologized to fans on Instagram and announced that his concert has been rescheduled for July 28th.
“To all the Maine fans, I’m so sorry,” he wrote. “Please hold on to your tickets and they will be honored under the rescheduled dates. Ticket holders will be emailed directly with further information.”
“I can’t live without you. I can’t wait to come back and give you the show you deserve.”
The rapper is currently scheduled to perform Thursday at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, New York, before heading to the BankNH Pavilion in Guilford, New Hampshire on Friday.
The 20 Years of Carter Classics tour is an extension of Lil Wayne’s 2025 Tha Carter VI Tour, which will run through October with stops in Chicago, Long Beach, Calif., Denver and Fort Worth, Texas.
