Kate Gosselin called her son Colin “mentally ill” in social media comments, addressing ongoing abuse claims.
Kate took to TikTok on Tuesday to share daily updates about her rescue dog, Koda. In the comment thread, a follower who mentioned Corinne’s ongoing accusations said she empathized with being “constantly belittled and lied to” by “an adult child with a distorted version of their childhood” and wrote that her “heart goes out” to the reality TV star.
Kate, 51, replied in the thread: “Thank you! I understand.” “Sadly, only parents of mentally ill children understand!”
Kate went on to write that it was “so harsh” and that she was “learning that[people]don’t have the ability to understand unless they experience it themselves.”
A day earlier, another follower wrote that comments “need to be filtered”, while Kate wrote: “That’s right! No hate or ridiculous accusations! We’re an honest and accurate speaking and positive uplifting group here!”
Representatives for Colin and Kate could not be reached for comment by Page Six on Tuesday.
Kate’s interaction with her followers coincides with the upcoming release of Colin’s bombshell memoir In the Shadow of Eight, which he promised on social media earlier this month to reveal “the shocking side of our picture-perfect family”.
Since then, the 22-year-old has brought up his famous mother on numerous occasions. That included resharing the Post’s social media content about the book on Saturday with the headline, “‘Soaring’ ahead of estranged son Colin’s shocking memoir: ‘She knows this book is going to shock fans.'”
On Tuesday, he again slammed the TLC star on his Instagram Stories, writing, “Never forget the fact that my mom used to write in her diary, ‘I had to pray to God to stop hitting me’ (this was when I was 2 years old, by the way).”
“That’s why it’s so important that I use my voice to bring these things to light,” he added, teasing the book’s release in October.
In separate social media comments on Monday, Kate told her followers that she would not be taking part in Colin’s lie detector test in October 2025. Concerning Colin’s claim that he confined him in the basement with zip ties around his wrists and ankles.
“If you are 100% sure that the accusations against you are false, my suggestion is to take him to court and sue him for defamation!” one person wrote, to which Kate responded: “I can’t believe I’m a public figure. Unfortunately the rules are different, otherwise I definitely would!”
The comment refers to an interview Mr. Collin gave with the US Sun last year, during which he issued an open invitation and said, “I want you both to be put through a lie detector.”
“For me, I have nothing to hide. I want to ask her these questions,” he said at the time.
Kate, who is said to be in “deteriorating health” as publication approaches, has denied the claims, and her sister Madeline has previously countersued her brother for “physical violence and hate speech”.
Colin has been estranged from his sextuplets Arden, Joel, Alexis and Leah, as well as his 25-year-old twin sisters Carla and Madeline, for years.
After Kate divorced ex-husband and “Jon & Kate Plus 8” co-star Jon Gosselin in 2009, the majority of Gosselin’s famous children appear to have sided with their mother.
Meanwhile, Colin and his sextuplet sister Hannah have been living with their father since 2018, but Hannah has reportedly been trying to repair her relationship with her mother since then.
In August last year, Colin wrote a heartfelt message to his siblings via TikTok, claiming that circumstances had forced them to be “separated.”
“Born to be a team, we take on the world…” he wrote above an old photo of himself and his seven siblings.
“I wonder every day what our lives would have been like if we had had to do it alone,” he added.
