Late-night host John Oliver heads to daytime.
The host of “Last Week Tonight” will appear as a guest on the three-episode daytime soap opera “General Hospital,” which will air on July 2nd, 3rd, and 6th.
Oliver announced his casting on the June 28 episode of Last Week Tonight after expressing interest in appearing on the daytime drama in March.
“When John Oliver announced publicly that he wanted to step down and join a soap, we didn’t hesitate for a second. He was everything we expected: prepared, professional, funny and really nice to everyone on set,” Frank Valentini, executive producer of General Hospital, said in a statement. “He plays an integral part of the story, and we can’t wait for fans to see who he meets within Port Charles.”
“General Hospital,” which airs weekdays on ABC and streams on Hulu, is in its 64th year, making it the longest-running scripted American soap opera and the longest-running American soap opera currently in production. The series has won 18 Daytime Emmy Awards, including Best Daytime Drama.
“‘General Hospital’ was everything I ever wanted it to be, and I’m truly honored to be able to leave a small stain on the history of this illustrious show,” Oliver said.
This soap was created by Frank and Doris Hursley. Frank Valentini will serve as executive producer, and Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten will serve as co-writers.
“Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” is currently in its 13th season, airing Sundays on HBO and available to stream on HBO Max. HBO originals have won 32 Emmy Awards, three Peabody Awards, two GLAAD Media Awards, nine Writers Guild Awards and nine PGA Awards.
