John Oliver slammed President Trump and Fox News’ Jesse Watters for spreading conspiracy theories about vandals damaging the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool, and after announcing a three-episode series for ABC’s “General Hospital,” he revealed on Sunday’s “Last Week Tonight” that he will also appear in a week’s worth of episodes of NBC’s “Days of Our Lives.”
Oliver said he was “filled with burning jealousy” when he learned that ESPN pundit Stephen A. Smith had starred as the character “Brick” on “General Hospital” for the past 10 years.
“To be clear, being on a soap opera is not my Plan B,” Oliver explained. “I simply offered my hypothetical acting skills to a soap that would meet my criteria: I wanted to play a character with a ridiculous name, I wanted a gripping storyline like a murder or a slap, and I wanted a dramatic close-up of my face. Well, I’m excited to announce an update.”
“We’re delighted to have already recorded a week’s worth of episodes of Days of Our Lives, which is obviously a huge honor. It’s also home to some of the most famous soap opera actors, including Deirdre Hall, Susan Seaforth Hayes, and John Aniston,” he said, adding, “We’ve also had guest appearances from legends like Dick Van Dyke, Betty White, and now myself.”
Oliver’s “General Hospital” episodes will air July 2, 3, and 4, and his “Days of Our Lives” episodes will air Aug. 11, 12, and 14.
