Mayim Bialik opens up about the dangers of questioning decisions to close schools and churches and the Black Lives Matter protests during the coronavirus pandemic.
“I’m a bleeding-heart liberal. You name it, I’m a liberal,” Bialik, 50, told podcast host and Free Press founder Susie Weiss on Friday’s episode of the podcast “Second Thought.”
“If you have any questions about what we’re doing about school closures, church closures, Black Lives Matter marches, I just wanted to talk about that, and the idea that even if you’re in your own home, it’s not always safe.”
She went on to list the moment when she doubted Biden’s candidacy for a second term.
“For example, if I said, ‘I think it’s time for Joe Biden not to run for president,’ it’s the same as if I said, ‘You turned on us. You’re a closet Republican,'” Bialik recalled, adding a sarcastic tone to mimic the accusation she received.
“And to me, that’s the most democratic thing to say. We don’t all have to agree, but something is wrong here.”
The “Big Bang Theory” alum went on to admit that the pandemic has created a rift between people.
“For six days until Sunday, everything was ruined because of the coronavirus,” she lamented.
“Then all the circles on the right and left were like, oh, this isn’t a telephone pole, it’s just a big circle, because the crazy people on the left sounded just as crazy as the people on the right.”
But Bialik decided to address the growing inequality by turning to Free Press, a media company founded by Weiss and her sister Bari Weiss, who also serves as managing editor of CBS News.
“I had to resort to, oh, wait a minute, something doesn’t make sense, that’s not okay,” she said.
Since then, Bialik has become involved with the show as an avid guest and contributor.
