The animated action comedy “Heist Brothers,” first teased as a “heist safari” by Genndy Tartakovsky at Annecy in 2024, has been given the full green light to be made into a series by Adult Swim.
This news seems to be the biggest news of this year’s Adult Swim Studio Focus. The event, which takes place in Annecy on Friday, caps off a run of shows from major American studios at their own French festival.
“We believe this is the most outrageous thing being made right now,” Adult Swim head Michael O’Welleen told Adult Swim Studio Focus, promising a “wall-to-wall custom EDM” soundtrack with a mix of Tex Avery and Guy Ritchie. Oweleen tentatively hopes that the ongoing sessions will take place at next year’s Annecy Festival.
It’s unclear how much the series will differ from the details revealed at Annecy last year, when Tartakovsky gave a sneak peek of the animation from the show’s first episode. Three frog brothers attempting to rob a bank were shown chasing the bank’s vault keeper’s mouse before reaching the security button.
“This sequence, in which Orwelline notes the influence of Tex Avery, is a vibrant explosion of visual comedy, backed by aggressive EDM music,” Variety wrote.
The greenlight announcement was made at the Adult Swim First Look and Creative Voices Studio Focus presentation at the 2026 Annecy Animation Festival. The intertwined history of Cartoon Network and Adult Swim comes as Cartoon Network celebrates its 35th anniversary after the release of two new specials, Cartoon Network docuseries and “Robot Chicken,” exclusively with Variety.
Adult Swim Studio Focus also presented various behind-the-scenes presentations from across the festival about its upcoming second season, “Common Side Effects,” “My Two Cars,” “Rick and Morty” and its spinoff, “President Curtis,” starring Keith David.
This will continue in the future.
