It’s the second time this season that a Love Island USA contestant has been kicked off the show for using the N-word.
Peacock has confirmed that Casa Amor contestant Alana Kaiser will no longer appear in Season 8 after a video of her singing along to the n-word in the song was leaked on social media. Additionally, users spread Instagram comments and Snap messages in which she used the same slur. The videos were originally posted to a private account and were not shared publicly until after Kaiser appeared on the show, so they would not have been accessible during Peacock’s review process.
Kaiser’s exit follows that of Vasana Montgomery, who was also exited from the show for the same reason before Season 8 premiered. However, this trend is not new. Last year’s Season 7 of Love Island USA saw Yulissa Escobar exited in the second episode after a video of her using the N-word, and Sierra Ortega exited the show later in the season after claiming she “didn’t know it was a slur” to use a racial slur against Asians.
In Kaiser’s case, both the video and screenshots were posted online after her debut Sunday night, and she received widespread backlash online.
Despite being fired, Kaiser appeared in the first 20 minutes of Thursday’s episode, talking and kissing partner Zach Georgiou, and then sleeping in bed with him. Kaiser then appeared briefly in two non-dialogue scenes before narrator Ian Stirling announced his departure: “Alana has left Casa Amor.”
Kaiser is a 21-year-old USC film student from Miami, Florida. She first appeared in “Love Island USA” season 8 episode 17, where she was introduced as the Casa Amor bombshell. (Casa Amor refers to the show’s midseason twist that brings in new islanders to test out existing relationships.)
“Love Island USA” releases new episodes every day except Wednesday. Hosted by Ariana Madix and narrated by Ian Stirling. Executive producers include David George, Adam Sher, Jordana Hochman, Bernie Schaefer, Ben Thursby-Palmer, James Barker, Blake Garrett, Courtney Rosenthal, Sophie Brown, Richard Cowles, Mike Spencer, Tom Gould, Ali Hill, and Martin Oxley. ITV America produces in association with Lifted Entertainment and Motion Entertainment.
This story has been updated to include description of Kaiser’s final episode.
