Asa Butterfield, Jonny Lee Miller and Christine Tremarco have joined the cast of Hamburg Days, a drama series about the Beatles’ formative years in a German port city.
The six-part show is created by showrunner Christian Schwochau (The Crown, Munich) and lead writer Jamie Carragher (Succession) and is being filmed in Hamburg. This work was inspired by the autobiography of German artist Klaus Voormann.
Butterfield (Sex Education, The Unchosen) will play Beatles manager Brian Epstein, while Lee Miller (Trainspotting, The Crown) will play Jim McCartney, Paul McCartney’s father. Also starring Tremarco (Adolescence, The Responder) as John Lennon’s guardian Aunt Mimi, Darcy Shaw (Spirited Away, This City is Ours) as Cynthia Lennon, and Liverpool The series also stars Ryan Sampson (Mr. Big Stuff, Brassic) as Le’s promoter Alan Williams, Archie George as singer Tony Sheridan, and Jorden Miley. (Sherwood, Strays) as Lord Woodbine, Leah Dorinda (Falling Sounds, Where Is Wanda) as Astrid Kirchherr, Tash Major (Finding Emily, The Savior) as Dot Rhone, Louis McCartney (Stranger Things: The First Shadow) as Ringo Starr.
They join previously announced cast members including Rhys Mannion as John Lennon, Ellis Murphy as Paul McCartney, Harvey Brett as George Harrison, Louis Landau as Stu Sutcliffe, Patrick Gilmore as Pete Best, and Casper von Bulow as Fallman.
Hamburg Days is set in a smoke-filled club in Hamburg’s St. Pauli red light district in the early 1960s, where an inexperienced rock’n’roll band from Liverpool collides with two young artists, Voormann and Kirchherr. Together, they spark change and help turn a group of easy-going teenagers into the greatest musical phenomenon the world has ever known.
AGC International is responsible for worldwide sales, excluding the UK, where the BBC holds the rights, and Germany, where ZDF will screen the series.
W&B Television and Turbine Studios produced the show, and David Holmes (Killing Eve, Ocean’s series) curated the music.
“Hamburg Days” was developed by Benjamin Benedict (“Generation War”) and written by Carragher, who also serves as executive producer. Showrunner and executive producer, Schwochau will direct alongside Laura Lachman (Call My Agent Berlin, The Pimp: No Fuck Fairy Tail). Frank Lamb (“Andor,” “The Crown”) serves as director of photography. Foreman is the exclusive consultant for this series.
The series will be executive produced by W&B Television’s Benedict, Quirin Berg and Max Wiedemann, Turbine Studios’ Andrew Eaton and Justin Thomson, and produced by AGC’s Stuart Ford, Lourdes Diaz and Miguel A. Palos Jr., W&B Television’s Isabel Haug and Charles Breitkreutz and Katarina Haase. At ZDF, the project is overseen by Alexandra Staib, Caroline von Senden and Sandra Dettki.

The series will be filmed in Hamburg, Munich and Liverpool.
